We've created a little Sunday tradition in our family - Waffles for lunch. And if we don't have fresh strawberries and whipped cream, I get a few whimpers from the kids.
This recipe is my grandmother's and it's quite simple and tasty.
4 eggs, separated
2 C. warm milk
2 T. sugar
1 T. yeast
2 1/2 C. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 C. oil
Beat egg whites. Set aside. Mix together milk, sugar and yeast. Add egg yolks & vanilla. Mix together then add flour and oil. Then fold in egg whites. May be kept covered in fridge for 1-2 weeks. Can use water instead of milk.
Cook on hot waffle iron.
If you don't have any strawberries - which you should this time of year - then maple syrup and powdered sugar will do. My other personal favorite is pear sauce. I throw a bottle of my canned pears into the blender, and whalah, pear sauce. It's awesome on waffles and pancakes.
Enjoy!!
All I have to say is "YUM!!"
ReplyDeleteoh I was needing a good waffle recipe I just borrowed my parents and I think I will borrow it again to make these, yum
ReplyDeleteThat looks so yummy!! My husband is the pickiest about his waffles....they must be the small squares, not the big ones. I have looked ALL over and can't find a waffle maker that is NOT belgian...any ideas where to find one?
ReplyDeleteD.I. - I just donated mine when we moved. We liked the big squares better. Oops. Sorry.
